The Fitness and Sports Center is a single-story, 70,325 SF building serving two functional users. The customers are Base Services and the Health and Wellness Center (HAWC). Upon entrance into the facility a child playroom and juice bar are directly to the north (visitor’s right). The HAWC is accessed by a connecting corridor from the lobby to the south (visitor’s left). The HAWC also has its own exterior entrance for primary use. The control/reception counter is placed in the lobby to fully monitor the building entry, HAWC corridor and the activity occurring along the main organizational corridor that begins just beyond the control desk. This corridor is wide for ease of circulation and high to feature clearstory windows for natural daylighting. All facility fitness and sport venues can be accessed from this main circulation feature. To the north of the corridor are various types of weight and aerobic exercise rooms. These rooms can be viewed from the corridor through a continuous glass wall that extends the length of the corridor. The locker rooms, gym, racquetball courts and lap pool are accessed along the south side of the corridor. Entrance into the gym and lap pool is also attainable from the locker rooms. An open stair half way down the corridor accesses an indoor running track that is located at a mezzanine level. This track encircles and overlooks the gymnasium and has additional overlooks into the main corridor below and the lobby.
