Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter breaks ground

Municipal-Peninsula-Regional-Animal-Shelter-542x250The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, designed by Waller, Todd and Sadler Architects, is currently under construction and due to be completed by the end of 2013.  It is a joint project of York County and the Cities of Hampton, Poquoson and Newport News.  This 30,000 square foot shelter is being constructed near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Briarfield Road in Newport News and will provide animal sheltering and adoption services for the citizens of these four jurisdictions.  Facility highlights include an Adoption area, Separate entrances for Surrenders/Adoptions, Natural Lighting, Separate/multiple air handling/filtration systems, Adoption Viewing Areas, Shelter Clinic, Offices for Animal Services/Control Staff, Outside Animal Runs, and Environmentally Sustainable Features.  When complete, this facility will house up to 166 dogs and 193 cats.
